Remember at this time of year last year (well...almost since it happened later in March last year) how there was a "fetal personhood" bill proposed to the House? Luckily, the bill was defeated since all bills die when Maryland Senate and House convened for the year that haven't been discussed. Unfortunately, the "Fetal Personhood" is back under another bill that's been introduced to the House of Delegates.
This bill is designed to ban abortion and challenge Roe vs. Wade by granting legal rights from the begining of "biological development". This wouldn't only ban abortion, but restrict reproductive technologies like IVF and compromise access to birth control.
In 1992, Maryland voters spoke loudly and clearly when they adopted constitutional protections for a woman’s right to choose. If passed, this provision banning abortion would be placed on the 2010 ballot. Similar efforts are underway in Colorado, Mississippi, Nevada, and many other states around the country.
Maryland has a good record for being a pro-choice state. Let's keep it that way by donating and writing to our politicans to vote against this bill. May history repeat itself again by this bill being defeated too.
