Go here to take the oath to defend choice in America since Boehner and fellow anti-choice (yes, there's nothing pro-life about being against contraception and sex ed) politicans plan to:
-Repeal the health-reform law, and taking away prenatal care and affordable contraception from women.

-Push the new "Stupak on Steroids" bill. This bill is even worse than the original Stupak ban in health reform. It would effectively ban coverage of abortion in the new health-care system and impose tax penalties on millions of American families whose private insurance plans include abortion coverage.

-Revive the failed, Bush-era "abstinence-only" programs that censored discussion of birth control.

-Cut funding for family-planning programs that provide women access to basic health care, such as birth control and cancer screenings.

Take the oath to show him you're ready to counter his attacks on choice.

Planned Parenthood has written an open letter to tell the new boys' club — and their Tea Party allies like Sarah Palin — that Planned Parenthood is fighting to protect the rights and health care that matter to women more fiercely than ever.

Join us. Fill out the form to add your name.

I already signed it

I got this from Planned Parenthood:

During the debate on September 1st between Debra Boxer and Carly Fiorina, Fiorina was asked if she would seek to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Her answer? "If there is an opportunity"

If you have any relatives and friends living in CA that are pro-choice, bring this to their attention. Have them sign it so they can let Fiorina know that they heard her and will keep that in mind on the election on November 2nd when they go to the polls.

Why do male pro-lifers speak their minds while pro-choice guys stay silent? Hugh Ryan on the fight's glaring gender divide—and why men are turning against abortion rights in droves.

A couple snippets from the article that I liked:
Pro-choice activists argue that there’s more to the issue than one poll, however. Ted Miller, Communications Director at NARAL Pro-Choice America, points to South Dakota. When a legislative ban on abortions was defeated in 2006, anti-abortion activists claimed that a similar bill, with exceptions for rape and incest, would pass in the next legislative cycle. In 2008, the bill, now with exceptions, was handily defeated again, and both pre- and post-polling showed men and women equally against it.
Not to mention, several states that had a bill which would've given fertilized eggs personhood was defeated in several states in the 2008 election.

The truth of the matter is that women have always and will always make decisions about whether or not to have children, regardless of what their parents, Congress, or Tim Tebow have to say about it. But without vocal support—from men and women—procedures will become more difficult to get, and more dangerous for the women who need them. Having seen the alternative, I know which side I stand on.
Damn right!!!

I want to remark on one thing, but I didn't make a snippet about it. I think when it comes to polls, people (both and women) think that in order to be pro-choice...you have to have an abortion and you have to love it. Being a former pro-lifer, I used to have that misconception myself. To add to that, it seems that people who aren't active in the abortion debate or are new to it don't realize there's more to being pro-choice than just supporting abortion. You defend reproductive rights for both men and women. As I have for our avatars on this community:

I checked my e-mails today to see this one sitting there from a fellow pro-choice Marylander:

"CBS generally does not air advocacy-oriented or political commercials during the Super Bowl. This year, however, they plan to air a pro-life commercial submitted by Focus on the Family, a right wing group.
Here is a video link from DemocracyNow with Planned Parenthood's reaction to CBS' decision.

http://www.democracynow.org/2010/2/5/pro_choice_advocates_criticize_cbs_for

Those who are interested should contact CBS and voice your opinions!"

I'm not personally crazy about democrazynow (haha, get it?), but I do think it's important that we let CBS know that this is unacceptable.

(Hopefully that link works for everyone).

Plans?

The 37th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade is this Friday on the 22nd of January. Are you going to write to your politicans to remain vigil against attacks on reproductive rights? Do the Blog for Choice? Attend a rally or a candlelight vigil in your area to honor the 1973 decision? Counter-protest the opposition at the March for Life, a clinic, or a place where they will gather to "mourn" the decision made 37 years ago? Make a donation to Planned Parenthood or one of the organizations for Choice in honor of Roe? Or do your own thing? Or nothing at all

My Plans )

If you sign this petition, a coathanger will be sent to the twenty supposedly pro-choice Democrats that voted for the Stupak amendment. The petition asks these twenty Dems to reconsider their vote on the Stupak Amendment as well as tell House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid that the final health care bill that emerges from the conference committee can't turn the clock back on women's rights.

More info about this here

Don't worry, fellow pro-choice Marylanders. None of the twenty Dems that voted for the stupidStupak Amendment were from Maryland.

Go to here to sign the petition calling on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to save abortion coverage and ensure that the same ban is not included in the Senate’s bill.

If the Senate accepts the same Stupak-Pitts amendment that passed in the House health care reform bill:
-It will be virtually impossible for private insurance companies that participate in the new system to offer abortion coverage to women.

-This would have the effect of denying women the right to use their own personal, private funds to purchase an insurance plan with abortion coverage in the new health system — a radical departure from the status quo. Presently, more than 85 percent of private insurance plans cover abortion services

Please read the rules on the community's profile. They should be very simple to follow. Failure to abide by them could lead to anything from being banned without warning to having your post deleted.

Feel free to talk about any issue involving abortion, contraception, sterilization, adoption, parenthood, sex ed, and activism that's happening in Maryland. Feel free to extend it outside of Maryland like in another state or country.
