Akin added: “But let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work or something. I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.” Oh, yes...we all know how often a rapist gets punished for raping someone *sarcasm*. I mean...between dealing with the aftermath of the rape and the fucked up victim blaming from society, I would say women are punished quite enough from rape compared to their attacker and any fetus that is concieved from that attack.
And hell, if one wants to think about a fetus being punished by being aborted...consider what would happen if a woman was forced to carry to term for a prenancy that was concieved out of rape. How the fuck would anyone feel knowing that their father raped their mother? To know that while she was forced to be pregnant with you, she hated you. To know that while she gave birth to you, she hated you. If she was against adoption and had no choice but to raise you, she hated you every time she saw you or heard you because you looked a bit like her rapist. Or hell...their mom abused them because she felt like it was her way to get back at the rapist since he was never punished. I mean...these people that are against abortion in cases of rape, has this even crossed your minds of how the child would feel to know that their mom hated them because of the rape and that their father was a rapist?
However, I'm happy to hear that the Romney doesn't support Akin's belief.
As for Akin's back peddle when he realized he pissed off many people, especially women that support his party that have been victims of rape...no different than when the GOP in congress backpeddled when they were trying to redefine rape so that women can't get abortions if they're raped.
I keep hoping the GOP continue to stick their feet in their mouths like this. The Democrats would definitely win the majority of congress if this bullshit keeps happening.
